Batman fan film: Grayson

This is a fan film made to look like a trailer for a full length feature film, only there really isn't a full length film, this is it. What you see is all that was shot. So, as I've read that a lot of people think there actually is a feature film, I'm sorry to say there is not.
This is several years old and I'm sure by now most of you have already seen this, but I never get tired of it. I've seen a lot of fan films and this is by far one of the best and one of my favorites. So much passion went into this and whats even more impressive is that the guy who plays Dick Grayson aka Robin is a fellow by the name of John Fiorella, who also wrote/directed/edited and handmade all the costumes and effects himself. Calling this a passion project would be an understatement considering how incredible it all looks.
When it first came out I actually bought a DVD from the director that has a commentary on how he made it and all that. Really great stuff listening to how he made the vehicles look like superhero vehicles with really simple materials like strip tape. Or how trick photography plays a huge role in a lot of the scenes.
This has been tucked away in my DVD collection for some time until my son brought it out today and was watching it. I forgot how awesome it was. Hope you enjoy it too.

  1. Love this trailer. So professionally done and such a deliciously twisted take on a Batman story. I love that they turn Chief O'Hara into a villain.

The whole thing is really just one one-liner after the next. "But for Dick Grayson. It begins again." "It's like your training for a war." "You're crime fighting days are over."

I've seen the making of too, that's a really good watch. I picked up so many tricks and tips. Using forced perspective models, creating their own underwater rig, trespassing on a golf course. Love it.

  3. Ingo: Yea man! I remember the first time I saw this and just couldn't get enough of it. It looks so rad and really well done. I still watch it over and over. Did you ever see the Batman fan film Batman: Dead End?

Jack: I think the forced perspective was the biggest trick he used. Just brilliant. And the firecrackers for bullets? Or the sharpening machine used to make the sparks for the background of that very last shot of Robing squatting? Awesome stuff man! And I love the casting. Catwoman was played by some American Gladiator I think? And I loved the older Superman look. That guy looked so good as both Clark Kent and Superman.

  6. The guy that made "Dead End" also made another called "Worlds Finest". Not as cool as "Dead End", but really good nonetheless. See if you can find it, it's definitely worth it.

  8. This looks pretty sweet. Of course, DC would lose their minds if he'd actually made a feature length film with all their characters like this, but I'd go see it if it existed.
