Motor City Film Review

"Bloody, Brutal & Badass"

by robotGEEK

Set in 70's Detroit, this revenge flick delivers the goods in a surprising way. It's a film with no dialogue. Everything happens through motion, action and body language. It's an experiment, but in my opinion, it's an experiment that works brilliantly.

At times it felt like an hour and a half music video (and that's not a bad thing) with some incredible cinematography and camerawork, accompanied by a near perfect 70's rock soundtrack. And at other times, its just about the most violent revenge film I've seen in ages with some excellent stuntwork and an insane amount of violence. The elevator sequence is a particular standout.

It's slick, violent and bloody as hell. Alan Ritchson has such a large commanding physical presence, while Ben Foster plays the villain, and I always love how he can completely disappear into a role. There's also a surprise cameo by Jack White, who also serves as executive producer.

I'm sure there were people who were completely thrown off that there was no dialogue in this film, and I understand. But I thought it was brilliant, allowing the actors physicality and the action to tell the story. For me personally, it works. It just popped up today on AMC+ and makes for one hell of a Friday/Saturday Night viewing.
