Though from what I've read already I don't think that will be the case sadly. But who knows? I'm crossing my fingers. I still have faith that Rodriguez going solo can deliver another badass action film.robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-17676951872345787352012-05-08T12:48:33.671-07:002012-05-08T12:48:33.671-07:00Yea man, Gibson in a villain role, cannot wait for...Yea man, Gibson in a villain role, cannot wait for that. Did Manquis struggle and have to call in Rodriguez for help or did Rodriguez take over because he wanted the picture for himself? Who knows?

I think it was the sprawling cast that annoyed me the most. It worked beautifully in Sin City because he was creating an entire world but he shouldn't have done it with this film. The movie's called Machete. Trejo should be on screen at least 80% of the time.

Still I'm excited to see the next one despite my reservations on this. Apparently they've got Mel Gibson to play the main bad guy. Should be fun.Jack Thursbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03101157160144955486noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-86974527285096537412012-05-02T17:28:32.867-07:002012-05-02T17:28:32.867-07:00Nice write-up!

It was great to see Jeff Fahey (who was great as usual) in the theater again.

Looking forward to the sequel. Definitely too many characters (some unnecessary and some just wasted), not enough of the Rodriguez style of filmmaking, a severely annoying Jessica Alba, massive plot holes, etc. But hey, it's not trying to be a serious film and for the most part, it was fun. If anything, just to see Trejo front and center bedding the women and kicking some ass. But I definitely enjoyed it much more the second time. I remember being somewhat let down the first time I saw it because it just felt like it could have been so much more, but hopefully Rodriguez will direct the second one solo and severely limit the amount of characters and subplots. Maybe they just felt this was there only opportunity and tried to cram as many ideas and characters as they could in case they wouldn't be allowed to make another one?robotGEEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00355070295108163031noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7959025705353546660.post-34994597758579746262012-05-02T13:40:41.956-07:002012-05-02T13:40:41.956-07:00I agree there, too many "sidekicks". Like you I loved the crazy over-the-top bits like the intestine rope bit and I loved that finally Trejo got a movie all to himself. But it just seemed too disjointed and poorly plotted.

When you compare it back to Desperado and From Dusk Til Dawn. Those movies had great rhythm and pace, Machete seemed to lurch all over the place. It needed to be much tighter.

I feel part of the problem is that Rodriguez puts too many characters in his movies nowadays (same problem in Once Upon a Time in Mexico). I mean why have Jessica Alba AND Michelle Rodriguez, just get one or the other. Neither character really moved the plot forwards.

Also he had Steven Seagal as the main bad guy but 1) he gets only 5 minutes screentime and 2) he spends most of that doing video conference calls rather than kicking-a$$.

I guess I'm just a little extra harsh on this flick because I had a lot of expectations going into it.Jack Thursbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03101157160144955486noreply@blogger.com
